Puntagorda is one of the most beautiful areas in the north-west of the island La Palma.
In the village are various shops, a dispensing chemist, doctor and dentist, banks with cash dispensers, a post office, restaurants, typical local bars.
Saturdays and Sundays there is a market in the Mercadillo selling local produce like wine, cheese, meat, cakes, fruit and vegetables and nice presents to take home.
In the village center near the clock is an interesting tourist information office.
The area around Puntagorda is a must for nature lovers.
There are many and varied walking paths, view points, some old windmills and El Fayal, a beautiful pine forest with barbecue and picnic area and childrens playground.
Higher in the mountains are the vineyards of the Traviesa and the Vega Norte wines.
El Puerto has access to the sea. There is no beach, but in the summer months you can swim in the ocean. From here you have a breath taking view along the coast up to the South.
Puntagorda is ideally situated for trips to the north of La Palma and the highest point of the island Roque de Los Muchachos.
In January the almond trees start flowering in Puntagorda. Every year, at the end of January or beginning of February, Puntagorda celebrates the Festival of the Flowering Almond.
Late July / beginning of August is the celebration of San Mauro Abad, the patron saint of Puntagorda.
